| quantity of the tires. Tires don't decompose completely so they were taking up massive amounts of space at landills and creating huge breeding grounds for mosquitos. Not decomposing completely and breaking down and drying out and being unfit to drive on the highway at 80mph are not the same thing. The expiration on food and drugs are not just about taste. Prescription drugs start to lose there efficacy when sitting on shelfs for long periods of time because the chemicals start to break down. If having a fresh tasting beer is more important to you than having fresh rubber on your car then by all means buy the old tires so I don't have to. If you think there is nothting to the age of tires consider this that happened to me. My Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS-D3 on my Z get very little mileage on them. In the 6 years they have been on the car I have put less than 4k miles on them. Got a little nail and them and took it to have it patched. When the guy at discount pulled the tire off the rim the entire sidewall at the mounting bead delaminated. I don't know how old the tire actually was but I can assure you it did not do that because of use or my lack of maintenance.
